reverse prayer shawl.

While I feel that this has been on the needles for a long time, in actual fact it was a relatively fast knit. I have worked on other projects alongside this shawl but basically, I have been monogamously knitting on this to finish it before December. I have dubbed this my “Christmas shawl” since I made the very difficult decision to forgo the gift knitting this year. Every year, I look forward to knitting a few gifts for a few people who I know really appreciate it but this year … I just couldn’t do it. And I know that those wonderful people understand completely. That’s why they are gift-knitting worthy!

Instead, I cast on for a simple, sparkly garter stitch shawl that meant I could mentally think about the wonderful people in my life while knitting this! Kind of like a reverse prayer shawl?!

Anyhow, what a perfect choice:

Pattern: Asunder by Lisa Mutch of Northbound Knitting

Fibre: Ewe and Me Yarns’ Stellar top in colourway Cola Classic

Handspun: Tradtional 2-ply, split lengthwise and spun end-to-end

Needles: 4.5mm

As you can see, I changed the cast off to a picot bind off. I wanted the shawl to have a little bit more interest and I like the finished effect.

I loved spinning this as I’ve mentioned in many previous posts … I equally enjoyed spinning some of Ali’s Stellar in the colourway Ophelia for the one and only Christmas knit that I made this year (and gifted early!):

This little toque was made for my niece but pictured on Norah before I sent it home with my brother. I made it a bit big in hopes that it would fit her for longer. The cream is some of my handspun BFL that I have been keeping in my stash so the toque is 100% handspun which my brother and SIL were quite taken about. They really apprceciated it and they have already shared quite a few photos of Claire wearing it. Success! Christmas knitting accomplished until next year!

What are your Christmas knitting plans? How do you decide who to knit for and what to knit for them? Please share!

Happy (selfish!) knitting :)

  1. I love how your shawl came out! Looks beautiful on you! This is the first year I’m not doing any gift knitting (or crafting) at all, for the first time in about 10 years. Instead, I’m focusing on ‘holiday knitting’ – working on projects that make me feel like it’s a holiday for me!

    1. That’s a great idea! I’m thinking I’m going to knit one toque for my SIL but not out pressure on myself for Christmas proper.

  2. The toque is super sweet! And I love the simplicity of the shawl design. I’m kind of knee deep in holiday knitting at the moment. But thankful that it’s not even December… yet!
