This sweater has a little bit of a story behind it so rather than sharing all of that, all at once, in the finished post, I thought I would share a little with you this week.
I saw this original sweater in Knitscene Fall 2015 and absolutely fell in love. Like I have to knit this now and wear it love. I purchased the magazine immediately. That hasn’t happened to me in a long while. I decided to think a little bit about why this happened with this particular sweater. Around the same time, Amy Herzog’s new Craftsy class came out and I thought, Hmmm. Maybe I should have a look. I did. Life changing.
I have knit many well-fitting cardigans and have used (although not finished as of yet) Custom Fit. The main reason for not finishing my Custom Fit sweaters is actually one of vanity :: I’ve been working on losing the baby weight and wasn’t interested in knitting another too-big sweater.
When I was inspecting the photos, as Amy advises, and figuring out why I wanted to knit this particular sweater so badly, I realised right away that it was styling of the photoshoot. The black and white photos, the model herself is beautiful, and the colour of the actual sweater.
In these situations, I tend to think fit is the most important part of the equation. I don’t look anything like the model (ie. I’m not tall and African American for starters!) but I can achieve a wonderful fit like the photographed sweater. So I decided to turn to Custom Fit. And the rest is knitting history because now I am on to seaming and then the endless collar!
