pom-pom magic.

Over the past year or so, I’ve been steadily trying to work down my yarn stash. In some ways, it is not going well. I have accumulated yarn at every fibre event through out the past year and a half. But in other ways, it is going well because I keep banging out small projects that use up one more ball of yarn each time. This time, it was a super adorable, bulky toque that is for a dear friend’s daughter who turned 3 this week.

I have knit this pattern before – actually one of those projects was for my dear friend herself! It is a great stand-by for knitting on 8.00mm needles and finishing within a couple of nights. This took me about 3 hours start to finish – including the GIGANTIC pom pom. I used the largest Clover pom-pom maker (the blue one) to get this size.

Yarn :: Patons Classic Wool Roving in an unknown crazy colourway

Needles :: 8.00mm DPNs

“No Nor-waa, deeeeed pum-pum.” [Translation: “No Norah, it’s a dead pumpkin.”]

Cute doesn’t not even begin to describe the effect of a massive pom-pom bobbling around on a toddler’s head! The decreases on this toque created a bit of a peak (per the pattern I should have ended a few rounds before I did but I wanted this affect) which is perfect for the pom-pom to sit at the end of – it’s actually quite perfect.

Although I was not keen on this yarn in the ball, it knit up really nicely. I’ve knit with this particular yarn a lot and had completely forgotten I had it. I pulled it out on a whim and thought it might work. It’s fantastic! I am reminded of confetti when I look at it.

With my dear friend and her family travelling to Cranbrook, BC, this Christmas & New Years, I wanted Kate to have a really warm toque. She is never short on toques but this will be absolutely toasty warm for her and maybe her mom can have the one I knit her back (she took it due to the pom-pom!).

Lastly, James had a blast in the puddles this afternoon. I had to show you the shots we were able to take ::

Have a wonderful week, crafting friends,
