I am not, nor have I ever been, a toy knitter. I sometimes think about knitting toys and then I come to my senses. But then a little someone was born and her name is Alice. Her mother, my sister-in-law, is an avid Alice in Wonderland fan. And not a band-wagon jumper, either. She loved the books waaaay before Johnny Depp and Tim Burton did their Alice version. Although I think she enjoyed that too.

Pattern :: Bon Bon by Susan Claudino

Yarn :: Cascade 220 Superwash Aran in 871 white

Needles :: 4.00mm DPNs

Notions :: 12mm safety eyes, scrap yarn for nose (Sweet Georgia Yarns’ Superwash Worsted in Mist)

When Alice was born back in the summer, I offered to knit her a toy that she would eventually be able to play with. I gave my SIL a choice of patterns and she chose the rabbit. I failed to tell her, however, exactly which rabbit I was going to knit. I had shown her quite ‘vintage’ patterns.

I wanted to knit something fun and while yes, this is a white rabbit reminiscent of Alice’s rabbit, it is also just a wonderful fun toy. I had thought about adding a blue scarf, which is knit and finished but for some reason it took away from the rabbit itself. There’s just too much going on and another detail is too much!

This sweet little toy is completely constructed seamlessly, stuffed as you go and closed at the top of the head. The instruction is extensive and easy to follow. I actually really enjoyed knitting this – and it is super fast. Lightning fast, actually. If I hadn’t of had to wait for the eyes, it would have been finished in under a week.

I’m excited to be able to gift this directly to my niece on Christmas Day since we will all be together. In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

Merry Christmas,
