For April and May, James and I have been carding up a storm and we would like to send out a batt made from Friesian wool to someone in our community! It is a spongy, downy wool in dark brown and spins like a dream – more on it in the show today! What do you love about the Down breeds?

Random number: 19 – @emlymom shares:

I used to have a couple of down-ish sheep, Cheviot. I loved to bury my face in their wool, so cushy. And for spinning, it is my favorite. I love the sproinginess, the loft. It is just a good all-around fiber for me. I spin carded long draw and just go on auto-pilot with a smile on my face

Book Club

#booksbooksbooks channel on Slack

As a community, we are delving into a Jane Austen Book Club. We will be reading Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen. Reading can begin anytime and @bethy40 (Becca) in our community will be coordinating Zoom Book Clubs for us to meet within to discuss chunks of the book at a time.

Made with Love – ALONG

This is a time to do what we do best and get creative. This is the time to make and lift up others – please read Rebecca’s blog post to learn more about this Makealong and event if you would like to learn more about the creation of this amazing event.

Excited to be casting on with Katrina’s B-fabu-licious yarn in an OOAK that she had in stock (that I love) and making Anker’s Cardigan by PetiteKnits, a PURELY selfish knit at this time!

Mairi (@iriaml, post no. 10) shares:

Using Crafty Jak’s Toasty and Tender, I knit an Apple Pie Toque – it was going to be for me but every round further I got it felt like the perfect gift for a friend, so it will go in the gift box and I’ll knit some more for her family and ta-da gifts for the year sorted :)

This toque pattern is actually quite easy to knit and the pattern is so effective – this is the second and will not be the last!

Breed & Colour Studies

More coming July 1st and dates will be released soon for our next round! We will be releasing the breed we will be studying and Katrina has been dyeing up a storm!

Tessa (@tessaw, post no. 52) shares her recent finish from our last study on Organic Polwarth: The Habitation Throw

Thanks so much for sharing Everyone!

  1. Rachel,

I know that you mentioned Soulful Spinner, I will definitely check it out. I have a recommendation for a channel that I really liked (she really tried to video tape her technique in a way that you can see what she is doing easily) when I was learning how to spin on a supported spindle (and, which helped me learn long drawhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWSyPLAA26wFi90KX1P0O2Q

She also has just a bit about weaving, but she is mostly a spinner, and I like her style of using the tip of the spindle as the drafting point and this helped me understand how to long draw using the tip of the spindle and how the angle of contact on the tip of the spindle effects how much twist enters the fiber and how you can use this to adjust the angle of contact to act instead of your hand for drafting.

    Sue
