Episode 106: Sweater spins & finishing yarns

Dear Spinning Circle,

Thank you for joining us this week. Welcome to new and returning viewers. Thank you especially to the patrons of the community. You can learn more about how to support the show here. Congratulations to Jessica and Carolyn this month for winning the monthly  & calendar giveaway!

This week, I introduced our current colours for the Breed & Colour Study. We will be studying Masham, using a photo submitted by Megan of lykkemeg (Ravelry). We discussed these colours at length & I hope you are looking forward to the study as much as I am! For patrons of the show, please watch your email for the link to be sent to you November 23rd to get started! Later that day, the listing will be made public for everyone to participate. Please don’t feel that you need to purchase fibre to participate — just grab some Masham, dye your own or use something already dyed, and jump in with us! The chatter link is here. Post finished yarns and projects here.

For the remainder of the show, we chatted about a finished spin that I worked to finish but the finished yarn bled during the washing and created some interesting effects. I could be disappointed but I can’t do anything about it so I am going to go with it! I also give you an update on my Sparkle cardigan. We have a large Spinning Growth segment this week, as well, and I wanted to thank Jillaine for her detail she gave during her post on Ravelry to reflect on this project.

Please head over the Ravelry group and introduce yourself. The Spinning Growth thread is here and more information on what that thread is all about is here. For the Ask Anything thread, please look here.

Projects I talked about this week:

  1. Sparkle Cardigan, designed by Joji Locatelli, project page here and handspun project page here
  2. Ambristo Farms Llama + Silk spin project page here

For anything I discussed that you’re wondering about or can’t find, please comment below and I will direct you further!

Until next time,

Rachel

A quick question about a beautiful Marino fleece I have purchased. (FYI, she is the overall champion at this year’s Taos Fiber Festival). Should I be washing it in mesh bags, with or without separating out the locks. I did wash about 10 oz , loose. Tried gently combing, hand carder some. Yummy, soft etc. the only problem I am getting many very small nebs/neps (spelling?) I can pull them off the yarn after it is twisted? Can you please help me? Thanks so very much!
