knitting · toque

midwife toques.

I can’t believe I have a finished project to show you! And it’s not just one but seven! This was a fast and enjoyable project to work on as each toque only took me about 2 hours to knit start to finish. A few moments here and there of knitting meant I could finish one of these bad boys within a day or two.

The midwifery clinic that I received all of my care through for both pregnancy’s consists of 5 midwives and 2 doulas/MOAs (medical office assistants), and due to the nature of midwifery care, I got to know each of them quite well. I wanted to give them something a little more personal that a box of Purdy’s, particularly due to the difficulty I had in this last pregnancy. They were so supportive and understanding – I wanted to do something special.

I used Berroco Peruvia Quick in colours 9186 (rose), 9184 (francia), 9119 (mostaza), 9189 (del mar) and 9177 (noche). The pattern from Purl Soho calls for 8mm needles for this pattern but I am such a loose knitter that I sized down to 7.5mm for the body of the toque and 6.5mm for the crown (mostly because I don’t have a set of 7.5mm DPNs).

Am I allowed to have a favourite one? If so, these two are my favourites even though the yellow is my favourite colour. Funny that! Happy knitting :)
