Little Shore Cardigan

We just returned from some time off and travelled to northern British Columbia – it was exactly what we needed, although as with many vacations, not long enough! Due to the long driving days to get up there, I was able to finish Norah’s request, Little Shore Cardigan. She wanted a ‘matching’ sweater to mine (Ravelry page for my handspun version here, yet to be photographed).

Pattern: Little Shore Cardigan by Carrie Bostick Hoge

Yarn: Cascade 220 Heathers in colourway 9655 Blueberry Heather

Needles: 4.5mm/US 7 body & 4.00mm/US 6 garter & ribbing

For this sweater, I knit the 8 year old size – rather than the 25″ bust size. Norah’s current bust measurement is 25″ exactly and knitting a 0 – ease sweater for this age just seems like a waste of time. I decided that for longevity of wear that I would knit her the next size up and roll the sleeves as necessary. The 5″ of positive ease works well and the sweater is nice and long on her. She will wear this for a long time!

I made no modifications, other than to knit the sleeves straight with one decrease at the end to work out the 2×2 ribbing numbers. Otherwise, I knit per pattern!

This simple sweater has short rows that are worked to created the high-low hem, same as the adult sweater. I love the difference in the length between the front and back – it is very effective!

The buttons that she chose to add to the sweater were given to her by my friend Rebecca, who visited in March. It was such a pleasure to be able to sew on the buttons and actually use them in a project! They are slightly too small but Norah is over the moon so really? No harm, no foul!

I would definitely knit this again – it ended up being a great project and super fast!
